Feeling lonely, sad, scared or overwhelmed?
We’ve all been there.
Maybe your relationships are faltering, and there seems to be more silence or fighting than ever before. Communication has broken down, and you feel lost and alone.
Or maybe you’ve gone through a breakup that’s thrown you for a loop. It’s hard to motivate yourself to get off the couch… much less get back on dating apps. You wonder if you will ever find “the one” – whether you’ll be alone and lonely forever.
Do you notice those pictures your friends post on social media – the ones you’re NOT in? Everyone seems to be so happy, enjoying their lives and doing fun and adventurous things with their friends. And here you are, working hard trying to get ahead. But is that all there is?
You worry about your family: your partner, your children, your parents.
Is it hard for you to set boundaries to protect yourself? Do you always end up feeling like a doormat? Do your friends, family, or boss constantly find ways of taking advantage of you despite your best efforts?
You are managing a million things…
… feeling like you have so many balls in the air, and it is only a matter of time until something drops.
That leaves you feeling anxious all the time…
And worried about being responsible for everyone around you…
And constantly contending with that critical voice in your head that tells you everything you’re doing wrong.
You are not as happy as you used to be… or want to be. You feel alone, even if you have a partner or friends.
Everyone is leaning on you, but…
Whom can you lean on?
Therapy is the place where you can let down your guard and allow yourself to feel supported. I will listen intently to everything you need and want to say. I want to know what is going well and what’s not going so well. You will feel heard and understood.
There is no judgment or pressure here. You have been doing that to (not for) yourself, and it just doesn’t help. Instead, we will explore what has gotten you to this place, from your growing-up years to the issues of today. We will learn how all of your experiences have made you who you are today.
And we will work together to find the way out. We will explore difficult topics together in a way that leaves you with hope for your future.
When we meet…
I will greet you with a smile and invite you to sit on the couch just opposite me. Then, we will start wherever you want to start. What are the things that have brought you to therapy?
I will ask you many questions: about you, your goals, and what you want your life to look like.
Some of those questions will be easy to answer, and some will ask you to dig a little deeper and challenge your thinking. There are no right or wrong answers – only honest ones. You are the expert on yourself.
About Me
I’m a true Californian…
I was born and raised here, and I’ve raised my three (very different) children here. I have been married for over 25 years, and nearly all of our family lives in or around Los Angeles.
Now, here I am… a licensed Clinical Psychologist in California (PSY14680), Nevada, and Oregon!
I love talking to people.
My children always got embarrassed when I struck up a conversation with anyone around me.
I find people and their stories infinitely interesting, and I learn something from almost everyone I meet and get a chance to know.
Some formal stuff…
I graduated from Pitzer College in 1988 and went straight to graduate school, where I received my Ph.D. in 1994 from the California School of Professional Psychology. From there, I completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in Los Angeles, where I worked with children and their families. I received my license to practice psychology independently in 1996.
I have worked in many different settings, including community mental health clinics, emergency mobile response teams, residential programs, home visits with medically ill clients, and in my private practice.
I worked for the Los Angeles County Superior Court as a court-appointed child custody evaluator, where I made recommendations to the court regarding custodial rights and visitation.
In my free time…
You’ll find me working on art and craft projects. I love needlepoint!
Don’t be surprised if you see me walking the aisles of Michaels looking for project ideas for myself or my kids.
I also love to bake and will happily whip up scones, cookies, cakes, etc.
I look forward to meeting you…
And learning with and from you…
I am easy to talk to, and I’ll provide you a judgment-free place where you can talk about all the hard stuff – the stuff that preoccupies your days and keeps you up at night.
I want to know all about you… not just the reasons you are looking for therapy or support, but what makes you who you are. You are more than any given part of you, and I believe it is important to be seen as more than just our hardest or ugliest bits.
I’m here for you. Give me a call, and let’s schedule a free 20-minute consultation to talk about how I can help: (424) 744-3774
